GLEBE

Painted , hand stitched silk   29cm x 34cm

'Glebe'  (noun)

Meaning 1. fields or land  2. a piece of land serving as part of a clergyman's benefice and providing an income

I am fascinated by the memory the land holds, and how it has become shaped by  both the elements and human habitation. 'Glebe' takes its inspiration from the ancient field lines, rights of way, ley lines and footpaths that criss cross our land. The textures of tree, rock, earth and plant are reflected in my stitch. I hear long forgotten folk memories held within place names, echoes of lives lived now shadows on faded maps.

'Glebe' was exhibited at the Fronteer Gallery, Sheffield in 2024 as part of the 'Ancient Landscapes' Exhibition.
